Dear Friends,
Each summer, Festival attendees make great suggestions about music and performers they’d like to see and hear at the Shalin Liu Performance Center. I take these suggestions seriously, and try, whenever possible, to bring these artists to our stage in a subsequent Festival season (or now during the winter season, too). A number of this year’s concerts are direct responses to those audience suggestions. Part of the pleasure in my planning is to discover new artists and music. Among the debuts this year are those of Tchaikovsky Cello Competition gold medalist Sergey Antonov, the double-bill Charpentier opera program from the Boston Early Music Festival, and the astoundingly beautiful Play of Daniel from the early 13th century—to name just three. Many Rockport Chamber Music Festival favorites are returning—some after long absences—and, as always, there is truly something for everyone in the lineup. Please join me for these musical riches in 2013!
