Rockport Jazz Camp, which was first held in August 2014, is the brainchild of two alumnae of the Eastman School of Music – saxophonist extraordinaire Alexa Tarantino and Rockport Music Director of Education and Outreach Stephanie Woolf. This past summer’s camp was an unqualified success (enrollment skyrocketed) and we are looking forward to another excellent year in 2017!

Daily events typically include small group performance workshops covering jazz improvisation and music theory, jazz listening/history classes, masterclasses grouped by instrument, special guest masterclasses, and large ensemble performance workshops.

Students of any instrument, age, or skill level are encouraged to apply, although a background of 1-2 years on the primary instrument is preferred. No audition is required for the camp.

In addition to the daily routine of the camp, there are always several events that are free and open to the public. They are held in conjunction with Rockport Music’s Jazz Festival. These include events such as improvisation workshops, masterclasses and family concerts.
