JOSHUA BELL, violin

JOSHUA BELL is one of the most celebrated violinists of his era, and his restless curiosity, passion, and multifaceted musical interests are almost unparalleled in the world of classical music. Named the Music Director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in 2011, Bell is the first person to hold this post since Sir Neville Marriner formed the orchestra in 1958.

An exclusive Sony Classical artist, Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs garnering Grammy, Mercury, Gramophone and Echo Klassik awards. In 2010, he was named by Musical America as Instrumentalist of the Year. Bell came to widespread attention as the recording violinist of The Red Violin, which won the Oscar for Best Original Score, as well as his participation in the Pulitzer Prize-winning story in The Washington Post by Gene Weingarten. Bell has recorded extensively, with releases that include acclaimed recordings of works by Bernstein and Gershwin, and thrilling crossover albums with Edgar Meyer, Béla Fleck and Sam Bush.
