Letter from President & CEO

As we navigate our national maelstrom, I want to share an important moment with you. It was on this exact day 10 years ago that we opened the doors and presented our first concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center! The work of so many volunteers, board members, and staff had turned what had once been merely a dream into a reality. Today it continues to bedazzle us with its beauty and resonates with a musical soul like few other buildings, exceeding all expectations. Though we are unable to celebrate this milestone the way we had originally planned, we are grateful to all those who helped bring this special space into existence.

In this, our special 10th Anniversary e-newsletter, we share some momentous musical moments over the last 10 years, as well as more exciting details about our Virtual Gala 2020: A Gift of Music to the Community on Saturday, June 27, featuring a performance by the great pianist and friend of Rockport Music, Marc-André Hamelin.

I am also pleased to announce that this summer we will host a new virtual series–Rockport Music’s Concert Window–with both performances from artists’ homes, as well as concerts streamed from our spectacular oceanfront hall. In this newsletter edition, we are sharing the first of this virtual series with a warm welcome and performance from the incredibly talented violinist Danny Koo.  The series will showcase an incredible array of musicians including violinist Chee-Yun, the Parker Quartet, guitarist Grisha Goryachev, and David Finckel and Wu Han. We will also feature some our fabulous local musical stars, including Mari Martin & the Lucky Boys, and the Rum Runners String Band. More details about the entire series will be forthcoming.

We look forward to once again experiencing music together in person with you, but in the meantime, we hope you will enjoy these virtual musical moments in the coming months as well as our highlights photo slideshow below!

Happy 10th Birthday Shalin Liu Performance Center—yours is the gift of great music and, now, solace as well.

Tony Beadle
President and CEO
