One of the most revered guitarists working the scene today, Boston’s own Johnny A. has created a decade-spanning career built on his virtuosic playing, compositional fortitude and distinctive style. On top of putting out his acclaimed new record, Driven, Johnny was just recently asked to play lead guitar in the legendary blues rock supergroup of The Yardbirds.

Johnny A got his start in the 70s playing with a bevy of rock bands (The Streets, Hidden Secret, Hearts on Fire) in and around Boston. Throughout the 80s and 90s he was a sideman for some of the biggest bands in blues and rock, including a seven year stint as the lead guitarist and musical director for rock and roll icon Peter Wolf.

"Johnny A. has eclectic musical vision and the skills to realize it...A.'s music is both accessible and sophisticated." - Ed Kopp JAZZIZ

In 1999 he released his solo debut Sometime Tuesday Morning on Steve Vai’s Favored Nations label and quickly began making a name for his high-flying guitar instrumentals. In 2004 he released his sophomore record Get Inside, which included the hit single of the same name, further burnishing his status among guitar enthusiasts around the world. After a well-received live CD/DVD One November Night, Johnny took home the award for Blues Artist of the Year at the 2010 Boston Music Awards. Four years later he was inducted into the Boston Music Hall of Fame.

His most recent record is the critically-acclaimed Driven, released in 2014. Last year, he was invited by iconic blues rock supergroup The Yardbirds to take lead guitar duties, an honor he gladly accepted.

In tribute to Johnny’s extraordinary guitar playing, Gibson has created two signature Johnny A. custom models.
