This year, we have expanded the Rockport Jazz Festival to include our dynamic Rockport Jazz Workshop, bringing more great music and free events to our jazz lovers. The Festival lineup runs the gamut this year, from progressive trailblazers like vibraphonist Stefon Harris and pianist Jason Moran to beloved veteran bandleaders like the dynamic Hammond B3 legend Joey DeFrancesco and fiery post-bop saxophonist Tia Fuller, as well as vocalists like the dramatic Veronica Swift and the crooning guitarist John Pizzarelli. No matter your style, we’ve got you covered.

VERONICA SWIFT WITH BENNY GREEN

Voted JazzTimes Best New Artist and Best Vocal Album of 2019, the 25 year old vocalist brings a fresh approach to the standards, updating classics with a 21st century sensibility and a hip, theatrical flair. She placed 2nd in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Competition in 2015 and has been burning up the club and festival circuit ever since, as well as releasing a universally lauded major label debut, Confessions, in 2019. Swift will be joined by the acclaimed hard-swinging post-bop pianist Benny Green for her Rockport debut.

Director of the Rockport Jazz Workshop, award-winning jazz saxophonist Alexa Tarantino has established herself as a dynamic performer and educator. She performs regularly with Wynton Marsalis & the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Cécile McLorin Salvant.

JOEY DEFRANCESCO

The acclaimed organ giant, known for almost singlehandedly bringing the Hammond B3 back to prominence in late 70’s and 80’s, makes his Rockport debut! The multiple Grammy nominee, who has recorded and shared stages with the likes of Miles Davis, Van Morrison and Pharoah Sanders among many others, is touring off his most recent record, 2019’s highly lauded In the Key of the Universe.

The Rockport Jazz Workshop has become one of the sought-after jazz camps in New England, teaching and energizing youth in improvisation and jazz performance, as well providing free community concerts for the kids to show off their skills and rub shoulders with professional jazz artists. Free, no tickets required.

A trailblazing vibraphonist of jaw-dropping virtuosity and seemingly boundless creativity, Stefon Harris is taking the instrument into uncharted waters. Regularly winning Best Vibes in both Downbeat and JazzTimes polls, the four-time Grammy nominee mixes contemporary hard bop with fusion and Latin sounds. His performances are both joyously unpredictable and fiercely kinetic experiences that make for unforgettable live shows.

TIA FULLER QUARTET

A saxophonist of impressive vitality and startling creativity, the Boston (by way of Colorado) jazz artist/composer/educator has made quite a name for herself with a propulsive style that mixes post-bop with shades of R&B. The Grammy-nominated alto sax player toured the world as a featured soloist in Beyonce’s band before releasing several acclaimed solo albums on Mack Avenue Records and becoming a sought-after instructor at Berklee College of Music.

JASON MORAN SOLO

A true artistic visionary who’s been called “the most provocative thinker in current jazz” (Rolling Stone), pianist/composer Jason Moran is pushing the music forward in bold new directions, unafraid to innovate, take risks and cross stylistic boundaries, yet still honor the tradition. He’s making his Rockport debut with a much-anticipated solo concert.

JOHN PIZZARELLI

World-renowned guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli has been hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz” and the Seattle Times saluted him as “a rare entertainer of the old school.” Established as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of the Great American Songbook, Pizzarelli has expanded that repertoire by including the music of Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Antônio Carlos Jobim and The Beatles.
