TODD PALMER, clarinet

Three-time Grammy nominated clarinetist Todd Palmer has appeared as concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and educator.  Mr. Palmer has collaborated with numerous composers, and went on to champion Golijov’s klezmer clarinet quintet The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind. He was the first wind player to be awarded the grand prize in the Ima Hogg Young Artist Auditions and later won the Young Concert Artist International Auditions. He has also held principal clarinet positions in the Minnesota Orchestra and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

DANBI UM, violin

Violinist Danbi Um captivates audiences with her virtuosity, individual sound and interpretive sensitivity. As a Menuhin International Violin Competition Silver Medalist, a winner of the prestigious 2018 Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant, and a recent top prizewinner of the Naumburg International Violin Competition, she showcases her artistry in concertos, solo recitals and in collaboration with distinguished chamber musicians.  In 2000, the Seoul-born violinist moved to the United States to study at the Curtis Institute of Music, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree. She also holds an Artist Diploma from Indiana University.

BARRY SHIFFMAN, viola

Artistic director of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival and classical music at Rockport Music, internationally acclaimed violinist and violist Barry Shiffman is well-respected as a musician, educator and administrator. He was co-founder of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and currently serves as both the Associate Dean and Director of Chamber Music at the Glenn Gould School and Dean of the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. During his 17 years with the SLSQ he appeared in over 2,000 concerts in venues around the globe and recorded several critically acclaimed discs under an exclusive contract with EMI Classics. He has also served in numerous roles at the Banff Centre, including Director of Music Programs (2006-2010), Artistic Director of the Centre’s Summer Music Programs (2010-2016) and Executive Director of the Banff International String Quartet Competition, which he continues to direct.
