A guest artist (either an individual or ensemble) visit entails a 1 day presentation to local schools. This could either be an assembly for a larger group of students, side by side rehearsal, or an opportunity to learn new repertoire and techniques.

Artists are engaged for multiple days to provide a more in depth teaching experience. The multi day experience allows for more personal interactions between artists and students, in addition to being able to go further in depth about playing techniques and pieces.

Weeklong summer program for students ranging in age from 13-18 with at least 3 years of playing experience. Students have the opportunity to work with faculty who come in from around the country to share their knowledge of jazz history, jazz theory, playing in combos, and mastering solo techniques. There is a culminating performance where the students are able to showcase their talent.

Cape Ann Jazz Workshop Director, Alexa Tarantino, visits schools on Cape Ann and throughout greater Boston to promote and demonstrate the many facets of the weeklong summer program. She participates in side by side rehearsals, demonstrates solos, listens and gives feedback to ensembles, and is able to go in depth into blues chord progressions and improvising.
